Affordable homes plan for Selby district

First published in News

SELBY District Council is set to embark on a house building programme to create 106 new affordable houses in the district.

The council’s executive will discuss proposals on Thursday related to its Housing Development Strategy for the newly formed Selby and District Housing Trust to build on various council owned sites.

Under the plans the next five years will see phased developments of new housing schemes – starting with a three-unit site on St Joseph’s Street in Tadcaster and moving on to sites in Riccall, Eggborough and Bryam.

The plans could be funded by either grants from the Homes and Communities Agency, or “cross-subsidised” by private developments on the same sites.

Council officers have recommended that the new houses are build first in the more expensive north and western parts of the district like Tadcaster and Sherburn, before moving on to the more affordable areas like Selby town.

So Selby comes third behind Tadcaster and Sherburn, Thanks, Selby Council for all you have done to Selby?

Heard that there was supposed to be 'affordable' housing in the Thorpe Willoughby new housing estate yet a single person I work with said there was no way he could afford to buy one and he's on a good salary! So much for each new housing development affordable housing supposedby being 10% of the development,

This is no surprise, when has SDC ever done a positive thing for Selby town.
