A lorry driver has died after his vehicle was involved in a collision with a crop sprayer on the A19.

Police were called to the incident near Thimbleby, between Thirsk and Northallerton, at 2.50pm yesterday, and the road was closed in both directions.

The man, from Derbyshire, died at the scene when his vehicle collided with the crop sparyer, crossed the central reservation, before leaving the south-bound carriageway near the Thimbleby turnoff, and coming to a stop in a wooded area at the side of the road.

Both vehicles were travelling north on the A19, and the driver of the crop sprayer was uninjured.

The road was closed for around eight hours to allow for investigations to be carried out before re-opening.

Anyone who saw either of the vehicles before the crash should contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask for the Major Collision Investigation Team.
