YORK Racecourse’s Welcome to Yorkshire Ebor Festival finishes today with some more sunshine – but also the possibility of heavy showers later.
Tens of thousands of racegoers have flocked to Knavesmire over the past four days, with only Ladies Day on Thursday slightly spoilt by cool, cloudy and rainy weather.
The festival, considered the highlight of the year by racecourse officials, has offered record prize money of £3.5 million and featured the richest race ever staged at York – the Group One Juddmonte International, the £800,000 showpiece of the opening day.
It has also provided employment for more than 2,300 people on the course each day, including 80 chefs, with many additional jobs created.
