THREE fundraisers have been nominated for the Community Pride Awards for their tireless efforts in raising money for their communities.

Eunice Cooper, Ellen Cole and Joyce Chaney are all being recognised for their charitable work.

Eunice Cooper, of Haxby, has been nominated for her extensive involvement with the Martin House Children’s Hospice, and other organisations including the Special Baby Care Unit at York Hospital as well as York Against Cancer during the last 41 years. Allan Leak, who nominated Eunice for Charity Fundraiser award, said her efforts have made her the "focal point" of the Gillygate Friends group.

This has led her to raise money for Martin House Children’s Hospice; which in 2012 raised more than £70,000.

Her fundraising efforts will also see her awarded the Freedom of Haxby at an award ceremony organised by Haxby Town Council on August 1.

Mr Leak said: “It is not only for the staggering sums of money that we wish to nominate Eunice for the honour of being an Honorary Freewoman of Haxby, but for her dedication to raising it and for her commitment to the social aspects of her work.”

Ellen Cole started her charitable work as a member of the voluntary team of Oxjam, the live music festival of the Oxfam charity.

She then went on to raise money for the IDAS (Independent Domestic Abuse Services) which her ongoing efforts have contributed towards maintaining the women’s refuge centre in York.

Ian Wilmott a co-worker nominated Ellen and expressed his admiration for her work. He said: “She builds great relationships with local people so that they give their time and talent for free in aid of a local charity.”

Joyce Chaney, 83, was nominated by her husband George for the gift tags she has designed for the Cancer Charity shop in Huntington during the last five years.
