UPDATE: Traffic jams on York roads after burst water mains - Yorkshire Water apologises

York Press: Traffic jams on York roads after 'burst water mains' Traffic jams on York roads after 'burst water mains'

YORKSHIRE Water has apologised after two burst water mains caused traffic chaos in southern York this morning.

Driver faced long delays on the A19 from Selby to York, and on the A64 approach to the A19 junction at Fulford, where vehicles queued on the inside lane of the eastbound dual carriageway.

One motorist, David Martin of Crockey Hill, said it took him one and a half hours to drive along the A19 from Selby to Crockey Hill because of severe delays.

There were also apparent knock-on problems in Bishopthorpe Road, where inbound traffic queued as far back as the former Terry's chocolate factory.

The bursts happened on the A19 at Fulford, near the junction with Heslington Lane.

A spokesperson for Yorkshire Water said: "We would like to apologise to anyone who has been affected by the bursts in Fulford Road, York.

"Both bursts have now been repaired. Work to reinstate the road is now taking place and temporary traffic lights will assist traffic flow until the road is fully reopen."

One has to ask, is there a problem as there seems a Water Main problem from Castle Mills a few months back then along Fulford Road, not at Heslington , wounder where else the Water pipes are in bad, to bursting point.

Large sink hole in Milton Street the other week due to a collapsed water main. Also the one on Melrosegate earlier this year or last (can't remember. Not looking good!

Wait until the council put traffic lights on the Naburn Lane Junction then the New Germany Beck Housing junction you will have longer queues than this without a doubt gridlock is being planned as we read.

So glad I don't normally work in York! Cawood has got a water leak which has been running since at least Monday morning to my knowledge with no signs of Yorkshire Water going to fix it, wonder how many gallons have been wasted there?

If you see a leak, report it. I walked past a leaking stop tap on my way home, rang Yorkshire water, next night it was fixed.
