A MAN has been jailed for six years after a fatal crash on the A64 between Malton and Scarborough.
Steven Hey, 30, of Shelley Drive, Barnsley, was also disqualified from driving for seven years and must sit an extended driving test before he can regain his licence. He pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving.
Hey was involved in a three-car crash at Ganton, near Scarborough, on May 27 last year, which killed 80-year-old Dorothy Brooks, who was a passenger in a grey Ford Mondeo.
Speaking after the sentencing at York Crown Court yesterday Sergeant Hamish Halloway of North Yorkshire Police said: “This was an extremely tragic case which, has left Mrs Brooks’s family understandably devastated.
“I am pleased that Steven Hey originally pleaded guilty to causing Mrs Brooks’s death by driving dangerously, sparing her family the anguish of sitting through a trial.
“He now has to face up to the consequences of his actions and the sentence handed out will give him ample time to reflect on what he has done.
“My thoughts and sympathies are with Mrs Brooks’s family and I hope that they can take some comfort from the fact that justice has been done.”
