COMEDIAN Jason Manford surprised charity carol singers at York station this weekend when he joined in to help their fundraising for the Philippines appeal.

The comic was waiting for a train at York station when he spotted the carollers on the station concourse.

He tweeted: “Was waiting for a train, thought "why not?"

Later he posted a video on his Facebook and Youtube pages and wrote: "So, I was getting the train today from York station when I saw a choir singing away, lovely music and voices, very festive. I had ten minutes to spare so I asked if I could join in.

"They were raising money for ActionAid, to help in the Philippines. You can hear me, I'm the ridiculously loud tenor!"

Jason sang two songs with the choir - Joy to the World and Silent Night - before leaving to catch his train.

Later, choir member Nicola Normandale wrote on his Facebook page: “Thanks for joining us, Jason, we really enjoyed your contribution.”

On Friday Jason performed his First World Problems show at the Royal Hall in Harrogate, and the show came to the York Barbican in November.
