MORE than 100 men, women and children, all with elaborate moustaches, saddled up for a charity bike ride around York yesterday.

Fulford Cycles organised a Movember bike ride leaving the Minster for a six-mile loop around the city to the Fulford Cycles shop.

Organiser Dean Shepperd said: “It’s been absolutely fantastic. We had 30 more people this year, with some coming from Liverpool and Newcastle.

“We had one lady come along in a wheelchair sidecar alongside her husband’s bike. We raised £500 today alone, but it’s about raising awareness of male cancers as well as money.”

The cyclists were also joined by riders from Selby Cycling Club, who met them at the Minster for the last leg of their own 38 mile road ride.

Dean, who is Fulford Cycles’ business development and events manager, organised the ride last year for the first time after he lost his father and two brothers to cancer.

It has proved so popular he now wants to make it an annual event.
