SAM SCOTT was named in Rugby League World magazine’s Team of the Month for February earlier this week – but he has been pipped to the post for the York City Knights Player of the Month award as voted for by readers of The Press.

This accolade has gone to pack mate Jack Aldous – who has started this season much as he finished the last one, as a standout Knights player.

Aldous won The Press Player of the Year award in 2012 and it seems he’s after winning it again this term, as he tops the early table after four games.

As in previous years, The Press’s man of the match in each game is awarded three player of the year points, with the second best player picking up two points and the third best one, with three bonus points going to whoever gets voted Player of the Month by The Press readers.

Aldous, inset, has yet to win a man-of-the-match accolade this term but he was our second best player against both Swinton (2pts) and Halifax (2pts), and his consistency – and big minutes – up front across all four games saw him top the February poll among fans (3pts).

Scott lies in second place on five points having been man of the match at Batley (3pts) and our second best player in the opener at Whitehaven (2pts), possibly being pipped for the monthly gong due to having to come off a quarter of the way through last week’s game with Halifax, when Aldous went on to play long, and very good, minutes at prop.

At Whitehaven, the points went to Tom Lineham (3), Scott (2) and Jack Lee (1).

Against Swinton, they went to Matt Nicholson (3), Aldous (2) and Simon Brown (1).

At Batley, the winners were Scott (3), Jason Golden (2) and Tom Carr (1).

Against Halifax, they were Dean Hadley (3), Aldous (2) and Jack Briscoe (1).
