YORK City Knights have jumped in to fill the city's Boxing Day sporting void by arranging a pre-season friendly against Hunslet Hawks.
As revealed in The Press on Wednesday, York City have brought forward their Boxing Day Conference clash with Halifax Town to Saturday, December 23, because of hiked-up Bank Holiday police charges.
Rugby league matches at Huntington Stadium, however, do not need a police presence, and the Knights have filled the gap by arranging a game with their National League Two rivals in the build-up to the 2007 season.
Knights chief executive John Guildford said: "Boxing Day was traditionally a big day in rugby league before the switch to the summer season. It will be good to get to a good match the day after Christmas."
