SUPER League winger Austin Buchanan will be out to make a point or four against Rochdale tomorrow when he returns to the York City Knights squad.

The pacey loan star - in from Wakefield Trinity Wildcats - could not find a way back into the side after dropping out of the Whitehaven line-up at the 11th hour with illness.

But he gets his chance tomorrow and will have plenty of fire in his belly as the Knights go all out to make a difference.

Head coach Mick Cook said: "He went down ill just before the Whitehaven game and the lads played so well I just couldn't change the line-up.

"But we've got a few changes this week and he's got an opportunity to come off the bench and play."

Jamie Bovill has not made it through his knee problem giving James Ward a starting shirt in his place, while Neil Law and David Bates are both doubtful. Law is struggling with a back injury and Bates has a hamstring strain from training, giving Buchanan and fellow youngster Nathan Priestley an invite to the squad.

There is nothing the relegated side can do to change their own fate, but they can disrupt Rochdale's play-off ambitions and etch a few more points on to the pride scoreboard.

Said Cook: "We are still playing for some pride. We have had two games together where we have played very well and got the results and we want to carry on and finish as well as we can."

The majority of the players already know their fate - the details will be made public next week - ruling that out as a spur.

But money can still talk, added Cook: "There's nothing we can do about our situation so they may as well have the winning money - we are not going to just give up. And we can still have an influence on what other people can do too."

The other big incentive is the chance to send the home fans off from the final Huntington Stadium fixture with something to smile about.

"There was a great crowd last week at Doncaster and hopefully they will all be back, " added Cook. "Over the last four games they have gradually had more to cheer about. The lads are really working hard in training to reach this level and hopefully we can give them something to cheer."

The match also sees the return in Rochdale colours of Phil Hasty, who started the season as a York player.

Jonny Liddell and Peter Fox will have a unique motivation - to impress grandfather and York rugby league lynchpin Pete Warters.

He will be watching with special interest after being made an honorary vice-president by the club for all his hard work behind the York amateur scenes, especially at York Acorn.
