WAYNE McHugh will play for York City Knights reserves tonight, with director of rugby James Ratcliffe saying they want to check their options ahead of Sunday’s Championship One trip to Rochdale.

McHugh has been playing predominantly on the wing in the first team but coaches Ratcliffe and Paul March were to have a look at the former Featherstone flier in potentially preferred positions, at full-back and centre.

The match is a reserve division one game at home to Keighley, kick off 8pm, and will also see teenage hooker Chris Williams return to action after his ankle injury suffered in the first match of the reserves season in mid-April. The Knights reserves want to avenge defeat at the Cougars two weeks ago. Admission is £3 adults and £1 under-16s.

Meanwhile, recently released Knights winger Johnny Waldron is set to play for amateur club York Lokos over the summer having signed for the RL Conference Yorkshire division side.

The Lokos beat Kippax Knights 28-18 last weekend – with Waldron scoring two tries – to get off the mark having lost their opening fixture at Scarborough Pirates.

They travel to Leeds Akkies on Saturday with Tom Dunmore, Liam Watling and Ben Jones, all former Knights academy players, also now in the ranks. Jones scored two tries last week and Dunmore added four goals. The Lokos’ other try came from Lee Spain.

Knights reserves: McHugh, Joe Stearman, Stancliffe, Lineham, Jones, Blaney, Speck, Watling, J Hodgson, Williams, Hunter, Jack Stearman, Mortimer, Ward, Walton, Crosby, Caddie, Fairclough.
