YORK City Knights star man David March is a doubt for the Championship One revenge match against Keighley on Monday – regardless of whether he has a broken bone in his hand.

The loose-forward’s right hand and wrist are still swollen after he picked up the injury in the win over Workington on Sunday, with the swelling hindering a possible X-ray.

The 29-year-old continued to play on at Derwent Park – giving a man-of-the-match display – but he is unlikely to be risked this weekend if it is decided there was a danger of doing further damage.

“If the physio suggests I go for an X-ray, I will,” said March. “If not, I’ll be strapping it up. But it’s painful at the moment. I can’t clench my fist and it’s badly swollen. Once you get playing the pain goes away, but I don’t want to make it anything long-term.”

One fellow back-rower who will not replace him in the squad is Dean Andrews, who has left Huntington Stadium to go on trial with Gateshead.

The former Hull KR player had been offered a contract by York following his trial but was not guaranteed a regular shirt and is checking his options. He played for Gateshead in their 72-28 defeat at Halifax on Sunday.

Knights director of rugby James Ratcliffe said: “We were honest and realistic and so was he. We told him we had a lot of back- rowers and couldn’t guarantee him a game. He said if it didn’t work out at Gateshead could he come back, and we said yes.”

Keighley are open to offers for ex-York back-rower Neil Lowe after he refused to play for the reserves.

Rochdale’s Dave Cunliffe was given a four-match ban for use of the forearm on March earlier this month.
