YORK City Knights chairman Jon Flatman says that talks are ongoing with current members of the first-team squad about staying for the 2020 season.

York, who are currently second in the Betfred Championship table, have announced the re-signings of several key players for next season.

Jack Teanby, Connor Robinson and Jason Bass have all committed to the club for 2020 over the past couple of months.

Matt Chilton, Sam Scott, Joe Porter and Ash Robson have also already signed for York for next term.

And Flatman says that conversations are taking place to retain several players that have proved vital to York’s recent success.

“Conversations are on-going and continuous with our existing squad primarily,” said Flatman.

“We’ll be working through the retentions of our current squad.

“We haven't got round to everyone yet. Any deals that we do complete, they will be revealed in due course.”

“Those part-time players that are out of contract will be available to speak to at the next available time which I believe is in September.”

The Knights have been linked with Hull FC forward Danny Washbrook and Halifax half-back Ben Johnston in the trade press this week.

Flatman didn’t comment upon specific targets but state that new recruits were being looked at.

“I can’t say too much about our recruitment, but it is ongoing,” the chairman added.

“We’ve identified the targets that we’ll be looking at for next season.

“We’ll be continuing to pursue those signatures of those players that are willing to be a part of the York City Knights.”

York make the trip to face Barrow Raiders in their next league outing this Sunday (3pm).
