YORK City Knights have confirmed that utility back Jason Bass has signed a new contract that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2020 season.

Bass arrived at Bootham Crescent last November from League 1 side Coventry Bears and since established himself as a regular in the York side which is currently second in the Betfred Championship table and looks on course for a finish in the play offs.

The 23-year-old has scored seven tries in 21 appearances for the Knights in his debut season and has proved a versatile addition having featuring at either full back, centre or on the wing.

The England Students international has quickly become a fans’ favourite amongst the Knights supporters and head coach Ford expressed his delight at being able to secure the back for next year.

“Jason has shown an immense amount of commitment, work ethic and potential in his first year here at the York City Knights,” said Ford of Bass’ re-signing.

“He has played in numerous positions to a high standard and we believe the best of Jason Bass is still to be seen.

“He has made a positive impact both on and off the field for us so far and I’m delighted to re-sign a young player with his potential.”

Bass becomes the third York player to commit his future to the club in the last two months as Ford begins his recruitment and retention ahead of next term.

The highly rated duo of prop forward Jack Teanby and half back Connor Robinson both recently penned deals for the 2020 season.

Winger Matt Chilton, second row Sam Scott, back rower Joe Porter and full back Ash Robson have also already signed for York for next season, with Robson’s deal lasting until the end of the 2021 campaign.

York travel to Cumbria to take on relegation battlers Barrow Raiders in their next league outing on Sunday August 4.
