FORMER Knights player-coach Chris Thorman has been named the new boss of Workington Town, replacing Leon Pryce.

Former Parramatta, Hull, Huddersfield and England half-back Thorman, 38, finished his playing career at York after joining in 2010, also being assistant-coach before taking over the reins in 2012.

He took on an assistant-coach role at Huddersfield the following season and was interim head coach last year between the departure of Rick Stone and the appointment of Simon Woolford, but he then had to leave the Giants during an enforced absence from the game.

The Geordie now returns to rugby league and takes over a side sitting seventh in League One. His first match in charge will be in the first round of the new 1895 Cup on Saturday, against Hunslet.

The draw for the second round of the 1895 Cup, when Championship clubs enter, will be made on Sunday evening.
