Man of the match: Matty Marsh – switched from full-back to half-back but still gave a typically silky performance, with a decent kicking game thrown in along with a fine try and five goals.

Referee: Gareth Hewer (Whitehaven) – decent.

Penalty count: 7-8

Half-time: 6-18

Weather: parky but dry.

Attendance: 900 estimate

Moment of the match: York had been under the cosh throughout the third quarter and saw a 20-6 lead cut to 20-16 with Barrow on the front foot. However, the Knights dug in and regained a foothold, and Josh Jordan-Roberts’ try – a superb finish when he had no right to score – gave them breathing space.

Gaffe of the match: York looked in control at 20-6 up after Matty Marsh’s second penalty of the game but Will Jubb dropped the restart and this sparked an immediate Barrow revival as quick-fire tries from Josh Johnson and Tee Ritson changed the game – until York repelled further pressure, got back on an even keel, and secured victory.

Gamebreaker: Josh Jordan-Roberts’ try had given York breathing space with just under seven minutes left but the travelling fans couldn’t really breathe totally easy until Matty Marsh’s try in the 78th minute.

Match rating: neither club was at full-strength and at times it showed but it was still a decent contest – and it brought more cheer for the Knights. Of the two sets of fans and the two head coaches, it’s pretty obvious who were the happier.
