YORK City Knights boss James Ford is poised to make four changes to his side for the visit of bogey team Barrow Raiders - including handing a second debut to fan favourite Joe Batchelor.

Brad Hey and Will Jubb are effectively dropped after below-par performances in last week's comeback win at Dewsbury, while Perry Whiteley starts his two-match ban and Marcus Stock is sidelined by a minor groin strain.

Into their respective steads come Batchelor following his return to York on loan from St Helens, hooker Harry Carter and winger Judah Mazive, who play for the first time this season, and Dave Petersen, who returns at loose-forward.

Ford will leave it late to decide whether to play Batchelor or Liam Salter at centre, with the other in the second row.

Said Ford of Batchelor: "It's been great to have him around the place again and I'm looking forward to seeing him play.

"The qualities he has as a person aren't going to change (by joining St Helens) but his understanding and ability are going to be enhanced by their world-class full-time environment and top coaches.

"He's a high-energy player and high-energy trainer, and he finds ways to do things that aren't necessarily his job. That's one of the qualities he brings on and off the field."

On the decision to omit Hey and Jubb, Ford said: "Brad brings a lot to the team, including a good work-rate and carrying the ball well out of yardage, and he always trains with a good intensity.

"But we've got very high standards and he didn't quite reach them last week.

"Joe Batchelor comes in. There's pressure on players. They need to hit standards week in week out otherwise a good player is ready to come in.

"Harry Carter has trained to a good level - he's been good in contact and has looked sharp.

"When there are three hookers (Carter, Jubb and Kriss Brining), they're aware they need to play at a very high level every week. If they don't quite reach that, it gives me the opportunity to rotate. That's the culture I want, where players have to be at their very best every week.

"Will Jubb played really well in pre-season and against Toronto, but I feel how things went against Dewsbury and with how Harry Carter has been training, it's the right time to have a look at a different combination."

Barrow, on a 13-match winning run against York stretching back to 2007, are to make a couple of changes to the side that cruelly lost to Sheffield last week, the Eagles landing a match-winning penalty on the hooter.

The Raiders had begun term with a handsome victory at Batley, where York lost in pre-season.

Experienced half-back Jamie Dallimore begins a two-match ban and is likely to be replaced by rookie Jake Carter, whose spot on the bench will be filled by fit-again hooker Nathan Mossop. Carter had made his debut as a sub against Sheffield.

Packman Ryan Duffy (knee) is also out with Brad Crellin his likely replacement.

Dan Toal and Danny Morrow might also be in the mix.

Controversial former Super League figure Gareth Hock, Luke Cresswell, Shane Toal, Ryan Johnston and Declan Hulme are all out injured.

The Raiders will include Josh Johnson and Jordan Walne - who both had decent dual-reg stints with York from Hull KR last season - in their pack.

Papua New Guinea trio hooker Wartovo Puara Jr, back Stargroth Amean and Willie "the Freight Train" Minoga - who all arrived late in pre-season - are ones to watch.

Knights (probable): Marsh, Robson, Bass, Salter, Mazive, Cockayne, Robinson, Dixon, Brining, Horne, Batchelor, Jordan-Roberts, Petersen. Subs: Carter, Teanby, Blagbrough, Porter. Stand-by: Jubb, Hey.

Barrow (possible): Ritson, Amean, Cross, Spedding, Loxam; Carter, Charnock, Walker, Puara Jr, Johnson, Walne, J Smith, Aspinwall. Subs: from Mossop, Minoga, Stack, Crellin, D Toal, Morrow.
