BOOTHAM Crescent was united in tribute on Saturday to remember a promising young York City player who died after suffering a heart attack on the pitch.

This year represents the 20th anniversary of David Longhurst’s tragic death while playing against Lincoln City on September 8, 1990.

As a tribute, City fans joined supporters of his home-town club of Corby Town to lay two wreaths in front of the David Longhurst Stand during the half-time interval of their FA Trophy clash on Saturday.

They were watched by David’s parents Vic and Pat and brother Mark.

Laying the wreath on behalf of City fans was Haxby family, David and Jackie Wells and their two daughters Laura, 15, and Emma, 12. David, 45, who was at the match in 1990 and also attended David’s funeral, said: “I’ve been a York City fan for 36 years and that game was one of the worst days of watching them play."
