YORK City have completed the signing of striker Will Davies on a long-term contract for an undisclosed fee.
Davies joins York from Vanarama National League South outfit Braintree Town, after netting eight goals in 15 appearances for the Iron.
The 24-year-old striker only joined Braintree in the Summer after a highly-prolific spell with Southern League Premier Central outfit Leiston, playing alongside fellow York attacker Finlay Barnes.
Davies had a brilliant season with Leiston, netting 29 goals in 42 league appearances, as the striker helped guide the Blues to a third-placed finish.
Neal Ardley's latest signing had made 124 appearances over five years with Leiston, scoring 53 league goals, before switching to the National League South with Braintree at the beginning of the 2023/24 season.
Speaking on his move to the club, Davies said: “I’m buzzing to be here and I can’t wait to get going.
“I spoke to the gaffer earlier on this week and he knows I want to push on, so it was a no brainer about coming to York.
“I’m really looking forward to going full-time and pushing on, hopefully I can take my form from the start of the season straight into this.”
Ardley was equally as happy to be bringing Davies to the club, saying: “I’m really delighted to bring Will into the football club and I’m really glad that we’ve been able to add a striker who can add to what we already have here at the club.
“He’s a player who we’ve had our eye on for a while, he’s made the step up to the National League South this season with Braintree and his performances have caught the eye of a handful of clubs in our league, so I’m really pleased that we’ve been able to get him signed for York City.
“Fair play to the lad, It wasn’t about money to him, it was about an opportunity and being part of something.”
