POCKLINGTON RUFC can take a giant step towards Yorkshire One promotion if they can win at struggling Dinnington tomorrow.

But although the teams are at opposite ends of the table, with Dinnington having won only four times this season, the Percy Roaders will need to be wary of the threat of their South Yorkshire opponents.

Dinnington looked doomed to relegation last season but pulled off the great escape by winning their last four games and they have produced some improved form and results in recent weeks this term.

For Pocklington, who lead Driffield by seven points at the top of the table, Dan Wilson comes in for the unavailable Jack Holbrough and another player will be added to the squad.

Malton & Norton, pegged back to 30-30 by Morpeth last weekend, will be hoping to get the job done against lowly Team Northumbria in North One East.

With their Newcastle-based opponents having won just once all season, it would be a major shock if the Ryedale club, now up to fifth place, were not to record an away win.

Club spokesman Bill Laidler said of the Morpeth match: “Our discipline at the breakdown and ball retention were poor but we did produce some good rugby to score four tries and take three points from the game.”

He added of Team Northumbria: “They seem to be in disarray and are struggling to turn a side out. We need to put on a professional performance. We could experiment and bring the young lads in but if you lose you look silly so we are going with as strong a side as we have got. We have to go there, do the job and get five points. That’s the hope.”

Malton are without Paul Dobson, who is struggling with a back injury, while Andy Mitchell’s season is over after breaking an arm.

Fifth-placed York entertain third-placed Keighley in Yorkshire One.

Head coach Sean Bass makes a couple of changes from the side which beat Heath 22-12 a fortnight ago, with Will Norris coming in for Ben Hepworth in the front row and Mark Benson replacing Chris Fox at lock.

In the backs, Gareth Singleton drops to the bench as Rich Downey comes in and Billy Cakaunitabua switches wings. Joint leading try scorer Jon Dawes, with seven, continues to orchestrate from fly-half in partnership with scrum-half Tom Boyle.

Selby return from a month on the road to face Yorkshire Two leaders Barnsley at Sandhill Lane.

Last weekend’s 22-20 victory at Ripon ended a run of four successive away matches for the Swans and coach Richard Nicholson saw his men notch a hugely successful return – recording three victories.

And while he is delighted to return to home comforts, he is aware that Barnsley will pose a difficult test.

“Obviously it will be tough,” Nicholson said. “They are flying high and they are the all round best team in the league. The table doesn’t lie but we feel more comfortable at home. Everyone does. It’s a tough one to come back to but we will give it our best shot.”

Selby are without Matthew Wood, who has a foot problem, while James Blaymire is yet to return to full fitness.

Meanwhile, York RI have a trip to Thornensians to negotiate in Yorkshire Three, while Yorkshire Five sees Nestlé Rowntree entertain Stocksbridge.
