INJURY-HIT Malton & Norton RUFC will need to rediscover improved form if they are to take the spoils when Percy Park visit The Gannock tomorrow.

Inconsistent Malton followed their fantastic win over high-flying Old Brodleians a fortnight ago with a sloppy performance and defeat at lowly Old Crossleyans last weekend.

It left Malt in mid-table in North One East with four wins from eight games, whereas tomorrow’s visitors from North Shields lie three points above them, having lost only twice so far.

Club spokesman Bill Laidler said: “Altogether it was a poor display, with the only player to really enhance his reputation being Alex Whitaker.

“The second-half performance of the pack was a vast improvement on the first, but they must learn that they have to play for the full 80 minutes.

“The backs lacked direction and cohesion, and must hope that some of the injured can recover quickly if the momentum built up in recent weeks is to be maintained.”

Pocklington host North Ribblesdale in Yorkshire One for the first time since following them to title success.

North Ribblesdale were Yorkshire Two champions in 2010 followed last year by the Percy Roaders, although Pock have begun this season better, with four wins from eight compared to bottom club Ribb’s two.

For tomorrow’s tussle, regular Pock full-back Nick Bennett returns after missing last week, and, although prop Matt Webber is rested as a precaution after a head injury, there is a natural replacement as another key front-row, Dave Birch, is available for the first time since the opening game of the season.

The game (3pm), is preceded by the annual vice-presidents’ lunch, for which late applications can still be made to club president Tim Slater.

York could climb two places to fourth in Yorkshire One if they beat visitors Ilkley, who are one place and one point above them.

The Clifton Parkers are looking at switching captain Jim Rossington from number eight to the second row, with Andy Kay taking over at the back of the pack.

There could also be a reshuffle in the backs as Pete Martin, at centre in last week’s loss at Keighley, drops out while winger Billy Cakaunitabua returns.

Selby will face a mid-table encounter in Yorkshire Two at home to Doncaster Phoenix, while York RI can leapfrog their hosts, Old Rishworthians, in Yorkshire Three should they win their clash.

Nestlé Rowntree go to mid-table Rotherham Clifton looking for only their second win of term in Yorkshire Five.
