Pocklington RUFC wrapped up the Yorkshire Two title with two games to play after a 38-10 win at Moortown.

It ended comfortably enough, but the game was still in the balance at the start of the last quarter before Pocklington’s strong finish brought three late tries.

After missing a couple of good chances, Pocklington went ahead when scrum-half Ben Rees crashed over.

However, a ten to one first-half penalty count in Moortown’s favour got them back in it as they only trailed 5-3 at the interval with Pock skipper Matt Webber also yellow-carded.

The visitors turned up the pressure in the second period despite still conceding regular penalties.

A blind side try from big wing Dan Pickard settled the nerves and good back play saw centre Tim Nixon charge over for a try converted by Nick Bennett.

But straight away an 80-yard home break brought the score back to 17-10.

Pocklington’s committment and fitness came through.

Nixon twice carved through in midfield to complete a quick-fire hat-trick, both touchdowns converted by Bennett and, at the death a slick inside pass sent centre Jack Holbrough galloping over for his side’s sixth try.
