YOKR RUFC’S trip to the seaside must end with two points if they are to keep pace with the Yorkshire One promotion race.

The Clifton Parkers travel to mid-table Scarborough only a point off second place in the table but knowing a loss would prove a real setback in their drive to go up.

Having been well beaten by Yarnbury in the Yorkshire Shield last time out, there is also the need to get back on the winning trail – despite the injuries continuing to mount.

York have delayed naming their XV but Rob Kama, Andy Kay, Sam Potrykus, Darren Rutherford and James Arkle are among those in an 18-man squad.

Scarborough have proved hit and miss this year, having won five matches but also having lost to both of the league’s bottom sides, Malton & Norton and Selby.

Talking of whom, Malton & Norton are going to need a massive turnaround in fortunes if they are to beat Selby in a vital rematch between the two stragglers.

Indiscipline marked their 46-17 Yorkshire Shield defeat last week and, while that was demoralising, a home defeat in the league would leave them facing an almighty New Year battle to avoid relegation.

Selby, on the other hand, should draw confidence from their performance at The Gannock – particularly in the first half when they racked up 36 unanswered points.

A vital two points may be the springboard towards survival.

Pocklington entertain struggling Goole as they return to Yorkshire Two league action at Percy Road.

Goole are camped at the foot of the table with just one draw from their 11 games so far, and they are obviously struggling to adapt to life back in Yorkshire Two after being promoted at the end of last season.

But Pocklington will be wary of the local derby factor and expecting Goole to raise the game.

They will also think back to the 2007/8 campaign when Goole were relegated and Pock just missed out on promotion, but Goole somehow scrapped to the double at both Percy Road and Westfield Banks.

Pocklington have several players facing fitness tests on knocks and strains and will again finalise selection after training.

York Railway Institute will look to put a dent in Harrogate Pythons’ unbeaten Yorkshire Four record.

Pythons have won all eight of their league matches but the Railwaymen have tasted defeat only once and they will travel in good heart.
