IN-FORM York RUFC leapfrogged Yorkshire One opponents Castleford with a stunning 40-0 victory at Clifton Park.

The home side turned in a faultless performance against their promotion rivals to move up to third in the table with five wins from seven games.

York started well and asserted themselves well at the breakdown, earning a penalty which Paul Williams kicked to give them a 3-0 lead.

A superb solo try from Billy Cakaunitabua gave York an 8-0 lead and, following a great forward drive, Willem Enslin went over.

Castleford lost former York fly-half Carl Paterson to injury after a thunderous crash ball from home centre Sam Potrykus.

Two more penalties from Williams gave York a 19-0 interval lead.

Man of the match Arran Thompson was connecting the forwards and backs effortlessly at scrum-half and York’s pack upped the ante with Stu Davies, Jon Sharpe and Grant Williams putting in big performances.

Jack Browing and Williams kept the big Cas pack moving around with intelligent kicking and both Sam Arkle and Potrykus in the centres put huge pressure on the Cas backline.

Rory Thompson scored a try from his own half to extend the lead further and Cakaunitabua rounded off the try fest with a pacy finish from 40 yards.

Williams added further kicks to send Clifton Park into raptures at the quality of the performance.

Malton & Norton picked up their first win of the campaign, beating Scarborough 17-12 at The Gannock.

The visitors went ahead on the half hour when number eight Chris Lee snapped up a loose ball to cross in the corner. Matt Jones converted.

With half-time looming, a driving maul took Malton over the line and hooker Carl Muscroft to get the touchdown. Tom Collard converted to level at the break.

Malton dominated possession and territory for long periods in the second half and a Collard penalty, when Scarborough infringed at a ruck, gave them a deserved lead. Following a prolonged period of pressure on the Scarborough line, a driving maul trundled towards the line and Phil Pateman got the touchdown. Collard converted.

The visitors were held until deep into injury time when three missed tackles gave centre Ollie Hillier a try, but it was too late. Basement side Selby suffered their seventh defeat of the season, losing 17-3 at home to leaders Wheatley Hills.

In Yorkshire Two, Pocklington lost 14-9 at North Ribblesdale. Pock led 6-0 at the break thanks to two Nick Bennett penalties, but they could only manage one further kick in the second period.

York RI moved up to second in Yorkshire Four with a 37-12 home victory over Leeds Corinthians.

Paul Guest scored a hat-trick of tries to add to scores by Garrett Mallon, Matt Turner and Jon Alexander. Stuart Watson kicked a penalty and two conversions.
