YORK RI beat Bramley Phoenix 31-5 in their final home game of the Yorkshire Four season - avenging a 15-10 loss just three weeks ago.

The result left RI - who fielded a much-changed side - third in the table, although the two promotion slots have long since been decided.

The visitors enjoyed the majority of field position early on, aided by errors by the home side when clearing. However, the RI defence held firm and allowed their attack to get into the game.

They scored with their first foray into the Bramley 22. Following a couple of phases, the ball made its way to the midfield and back-row Ben Hartop broke a number of tackles to go over under the posts, full-back Chris Jones converting.

The game remained fairly even, with Bramley again spending time on the attack. But RI again worked hard for field position inside the visitors' 22, and after a period of pressure on the line, scrum-half Jonny Clark darted around the edge of a ruck to increase the lead to 14-0 via another Jones conversion.

The visitors started the second half the stronger, their big forwards making good yards. This caused the home defence to get too narrow, with Bramley getting a score out wide to narrow the gap to 14-5.

However, with the prospect of an edgy second half, RI began to move the ball into the wider areas with more regularity and found some success.

It did not take long for a third score to come, with good hands on the blind side sending number eight Lewis Starbuck over from 20 metres.

RI were now in control and it was only good cover defence and handling errors that prevented more scores.

Nevertheless, further tries did follow, firstly from full-back Jones, who converted his own try, and then from debutant back-row Dan Watson.

RI's last game of the season takes place a week on Saturday when victory at Leeds Medics & Dentists will likely secure third place.
