NESTLE Rowntree RUFC rose a place in the Yorkshire Four Shield table after drawing 10-10 at home to Halifax.

The visitors had some fortune in scoring a late equaliser but the scoreline, on a blustery day in York, pretty much reflected the error-strewn contest, as Halifax kept knocking on after Rowntrees' kicking game kept giving them the ball.

The game was mainly played in the middle of the park as both defences tackled well and both teams made mistakes in possession.

Trees started slowly but after 30 minutes they changed from trying the inside ball to putting it out wide and full-back Morgan Cames joined the line to score with Dave Harder converting.

The second half started with both sides scoring a penalty and, with Trees seemingly on top it, looked like a home win was on the cards.

However, they again gave away the ball and, while they defended well, Halifax scored a late try to draw the game, albeit with more than a hint of offside.

Meanwhile, York RI were given a walkover in Yorkshire Four Premier as scheduled visitors Knaresborough conceded the game. The result kept RI third in the table, albeit unable to catch the top two, Wibsey and Ossett, and out of the promotion reckoning.
