YORK Railway Institute RUFC were just inches away from an opening game victory over Rotherham Phoenix in Yorkshire Division Four last weekend.
Baptiste Brui, who had opened the scoring with a brilliant 30 metre drop goal, sent a penalty wide with the last kick of the match and the scores level at 13-13.
On a terrible rainy afternoon, Rotherham had led 13-5 at the interval thanks to Brui converting a try from Martyn Ward and adding a penalty.
But the visitors hit back with a penalty late on and a well placed kick was chased for Phoenix to score in the corner and level the scores.
York RI played with spirit against a well drilled side.
Final score: York Railway Institute 13 Rotherham Phoenix 13
