LATE indiscipline saw York RI crash to a 26-20 defeat against Wensleydale in Yorkshire Four at New Lane.
RI went in front after only three minutes when the visitors spilled the ball in the swirling wind and a quick-witted Ben Hartop picked up and scored in the corner.
Wensleydale, though, hit back ten minutes later to take a 7-5 lead but coach Dan Coates made a silky break to feed Tim Lewis to score. Baptiste Brui added the conversion and he added a further penalty to lead 15-7.
A try under the posts cut the gap but, on half-time, captain Frazer Land cut through the opposition to slip the ball to Tom Greaves to touch down in the corner and see them 20-14 ahead at half-time.
A scrum infringement saw an RI prop yellow-carded in the second half and, for ten minutes, they defended heroically and only conceded a penalty.
But they conceded three late on as they fell to defeat in a hard struggle.
Selby suffered a heavy defeat at Bridlington, going down 41-0 in Yorkshire One.
