MEMBERS of Crescent Working Men's Club ladies darts team were hoping to keep a close eye on Darryl Fitton's progress at Frimley Green this week.
The British Darts Organisation's world-ranked number two was at the York club to open their refurbished darts area.
He got in plenty of practice ahead of the World Championship and met members of the ladies team.
But practice didn't make perfect as he was surprisingly knocked out in the first round by 50-year-old Durham player Phil Nixon.
Veteran Nixon has been toeing oches for 33 years and attempting to reach the British Darts Organisation's most prestigious tournament for the last two decades.
This time he has got there, and marked his first appearance on the famous Frimley Green stage with a win over seventh seed Fitton in which he took the last nine legs.
