Pocklington RUFC are planning to go on an end-of-season tour to La Rochelle, on the west coast of France, in the second half of May.

The club are to send out an advance party - comprising club president Tim Slater, captain Mick Beard and rugby manager Tim Clappsion - this month on a tour recce'.

However, Pock already have knowledge of the area through former player Jon Stuart, who plays professionally in La Rochelle for Atlantique Stade Rochelais, who play in the French second division.

Atlantique have produced numerous top players. Former Scotland A' cap Stuart, who comes from Everingham, plays alongside former France fly-half Gerald Merceron, while current international Jean-Baptiste Elissalde, now at Toulouse, followed in his father's footsteps to play scrum-half for both Stade Rochelais and France.

Pock want to arrange fixtures against a La Rochelle side, hopefully in the Stade Marcel-Deflande - the 12,000 capacity local stadium named after a former club president and wartime resistance leader who was shot by the Gestapo - and against a nearby village club.
