Selby RUFC are targeting a seventh straight win as they host fellow promotion hopefuls West Leeds in Yorkshire Two tomorrow.

Swans coach Richard Nicholson said: “It’s going to be tough. They are a committed side and are very good defensively.

“This time of year the players are sore and tired as it’s been a long season already. But we’ve got a great group who get on well both on the field and off it.

“We’re keeping motivated and we know we’re capable of a good result.”

Last weekend, the Swans triumphed 32-11 at relegation-threatened Skipton and they are now seven points behind table-toppers Doncaster Phoenix.

Nicholson said: “Skipton were very competitive, which is what you’d expect from a team fighting the drop.”

Selby’s Senior Vase tie at Blyth next week, coupled with their rearranged fixtures with Moortown and Sheffield Medicals, means it will be a congested end to the season for Nicholson’s side.

But he said: “The cup won’t be a hindrance to us, but we’re focusing on the league. The seven-point gap is achievable.

“If we win our game in hand, all it takes is for Doncaster to slip up. The pressure is on them.”

York RUFC travel to lowly Heath tomorrow in Yorkshire One, while York RI travel to Old Modernians in Yorkshire Three.
