YORK Lokomotives ARLC have “expressed concern” to Yorkshire Men’s League chiefs after they saw yet another game postponed, writes Peter Martini.

The Lokos’ group three match against East Hull ‘A’ last Saturday fell by the wayside after the Humberside club asked for it to be rearranged due to not having enough players.

It means the York outfit have still only played one league game all season – the campaign having started in April – due to call-offs and a stuttering fixture programme. The Yorkshire Men’s League, run by the Rugby Football League, is a competition set up as part of amateur rugby’s general switch from a winter to a summer season.

“It’s getting desperate,” said Lokos secretary Steve Bamford. “We’ve sent an email to the Rugby League expressing our concerns about it to get these games played.

“Last week East Hull (second team) couldn’t raise a team because their first team (who play in the National Conference League) needed players. First teams are getting preference.”

The Lokos were the first amateur club from York to play in summer, in the old Rugby League Conference, and Bamford remains an advocate of summer rugby.

“This is a new league and there will be teething problems but once it gets going it will be all right,” he said. “But we could do with some games getting played otherwise lads will get disgruntled and disappear.”

The Lokos host Normanton Knights at New Lane this Saturday (2.30pm).

Heworth ‘A’ have no game in the Yorkshire Men’s League, while Acorn ‘A’ have a tough task away to Fryston Warriors in the league’s Community Shield Regional cup competition.
