A TRIO of York Acorn ARLC aces will look to shine across the city as Yorkshire go for broke in the BARLA County Tri-Series tomorrow – while two York youngsters have won BARLA Great Britain Under-23 call-ups.

The White Rose representative amateur team, the defending champions, take on the Red Rose of Lancashire at Heworth ARLC’s Elmpark Way (3pm), knowing only victory by at least eight points – preferably more – would give them any chance of retaining their title.

The three York-area players involved are Tom Hill, Leigh Rientoul and Timmy Elliott.

Yorkshire lost 34-22 away to Cumbria last weekend in the opening match of the round-robin competition.

Yorkshire head coach Tony Spence said: “We came back from 18-0 down to get within four points of Cumbria before a penalty and converted try saw us lose. We want to win the game first and foremost and not worry about by how many.”

A Lancashire victory tomorrow would set up a winner-takes-all decider against Cumbria next month.

Prior to this game, Yorkshire Under-19s take on Lancashire U19s (1pm) smarting from their 56-16 defeat at Cumbria.

Admission is £3 for adults, £1 for concessions.

Meanwhile, New Earswick All Blacks’ Jack Sinclair and Acorn’s Adam Sellars will line-up for the GB U23s against their Ukraine counterparts at Heworth on Sunday, November 6 (2pm).

BARLA have named a 24-man squad from the Three Counties – Yorkshire, Lancashire and Cumbria – captained by Egremont’s John Paul Brocklebank.

The squad will train at Leigh Miners Rangers on Wednesday in advance of the Ukraine game, while a second fixture will be arranged against the Combined Services.

The York duo will be looking to impress ahead of a 2012 U23s tour, with BARLA Great Britain international manager Mick Turner saying: “We have selected a young and inexperienced side. All the squad has the carrot of an international tour next year and, through the coaches, it is up to the whole squad to shine in the next few weeks.”

Admission will be £3 for adults and £1 concessions.
