York Ladies stayed fifth in the Women’s Winter Rugby League after a 34-22 loss to Halton Ladies – their first defeat of the season.
Winger Natalie Marsland put York ahead after a high bomb caused Halton problems, loose-forward Kay Rollinson goaling.
Halton levelled but second-rower Kristy Duffield regained York’s lead when scoring in the corner.
However, Halton hit back to lead 20-10 in the second half and, although York half-back Katie Langan broke through after a quick play-the-ball, Rollinson goaling, Halton extended their lead with two unconverted tries.
York again responded as Mary Tiplady scored a typical hooker’s try, which Carly Hilton converted, but Halton sealed their win with a converted try on full-time.
York’s player of the match was centre Becky Brierley, backed up well by Tiplady and Langan.
