New Earswick All Blacks ARLC suffered their second defeat in two weeks when they went down 46-18 at unbeaten Dewsbury Moor in the Pennine League championship.

Coach Simon Baynes made a number of changes to the side, but the All Blacks were lacking in the forwards and Dewsbury Moor took full advantage.

The visitors made a reasonable start, but Moor were the first to strike and they forged 18-0 ahead after 20 minutes.

The All Blacks began to complete their sets and put some pressure on the hosts, with George Pallister having a try disallowed when the referee ruled he had failed to ground the ball.

However, Pallister made sure on the next attack, forcing his way over for the All Blacks’ first try, to which Liam Gargan added the extras.

Stand-off Shaun Malarkey hauled the visitors back into the match with a well-taken try, and again Gargan converted for an 18-12 half-time scoreline.

The second half saw Dewsbury Moor close the All Blacks down with some strong defending as they raced into a 43-12 lead.

Centre Adam Kirby, on his recall to the New Earswick first team, then took the ball on the 20-metre line and forced his way over the line to score, with Gargen again goaling.

Despite the heavy defeat, the All Blacks took some positives, but Baynes urged his players to up attendance at training so they can work on putting their season back on track.

Jack Sinclair was again New Earswick’s man of the match, while there were also strong performances from Pallister and Malarkey.

Centre Chris Spain and hooker Jack Carling both worked hard thoughout the match.

New Earswick All Blacks ‘A’ were handed a 30-0 walkover against Newsome Panthers, who were unable to raise a team for the division four encounter.

Division two leaders Selby Warriors were not in action at the weekend, nor were their ‘A’ team in division seven.

A depleted Heworth ‘A’ were well beaten 80-16 at home to Featherstone Lions in the Yorkshire Men’s League.

Try scorers for the hosts were Steven Doswell, Ross Varley and Ben Stoker. Mark Thompson and Doswell kicked a goal apiece.

The York Acorn ‘A’ and East Leeds ‘A’ game was postponed as East Leeds were unable to raise a team.
