HEWORTH put in a disappointing performance in their 38-18 defeat at Brighouse Rangers in National Conference Two on Saturday.

Poor tackling saw Mark Horne give Brighouse a fourth-minute lead, but the Villagers hit back with a Matt Derry try which was converted by Sean Coulson.

The Black and Whites' lead lasted five minutes as Chris Beever crossed for the home side for Richard Flynn to kick them 10-6 ahead.

By half-time tries by Gary Barnett and Simon Jackson - both converted by Flynn _ saw Rangers ahead 22-6.

Three minutes after the break Heworth fell further behind when Jackson went over for his second try and Flynn tagged on the extras.

Before the hour mark Max Tomlinson made a good run down the touchline to score for Brighouse and Flynn's kick stretched the lead to 34-6.

Heworth earned some respite with a couple of tries in a four-minute period.

First Chris Smith jinked in under the posts and then Leigh Rientoul made a swerving runs to the line. Both tries were improved by Coulson's boot, but Flynn had the final word for a useful Brighouse side with an unconverted try.

Luke Judson was Heworth's man-of-the-match with a hard-working display and there were also good performances by Derry, Will Neary and Gary Endersby by the visitors.

York Acorn were edged out 23-22 in their division one game at Ovenden.

Acorn were in front until the final three minutes when the Halifax side snatched victory with a converted try quickly followed by a drop goal.

Tries for Acorn were scored by Matthew Embleton, Michael Embleton, James Morrow and Chris Hall, with Tom Mackley kicking the rest of the points.
