A HEAVY 66-6 defeat by leaders Wibsey Warriors saw New Earswick All Blacks ARLC tumble down the Pennine League Championship rankings.

The White Rose Avenue reverse dropped the York side from third to sixth as the race for promotion to the premier division hots up.

Wibsey took control from the start with three tries in the opening ten minutes and they led 34-0 at the break.

With ten minutes of the second half gone, the visitors had increased their lead to 52-0.

The All Blacks finally got on the scoreboard with good play down the centre of the pitch finding space for second-rower Dan Wright to run 30 metres to touch down.

Winger Dean Layton added the extras.

Wibsey scored three further tries in the last 15 minutes of the game.

The All Blacks’ man of the match was centre Chris Spain, and he was backed up by Wright and prop Jo Hnesh.

New Earswick are now eight points behind the leaders and five behind second-placed Clayton.

All Blacks ‘A’ went down 38-12 at Drighlington ‘A’ in division four.

In division three, Selby Warriors were handed a 30-0 walkover against Littleborough.

York Acorn ‘A’ reached the semi-finals of the CMS Yorkshire League’s Gordon Teal White Rose Trophy with a 34-24 victory over East Leeds at Thanet Road.

Heworth ‘A’ gained a valuable home win in Yorkshire League division three, beating Dewsbury-based visitors White Rose 44-26.

A superb first half performance of fast flowing rugby saw the Villagers race into a 40-4 lead at the break.

Tries came at regular intervals as White Rose were unable to stem the Heworth attacks, with the highlight a brilliant 90-metre try from winger Karl Southerington.

Other try scorers were Ben Stoker, Sean Brough, Josh Bolam, the outstanding Rich Rogers (2) and John Coulson, who also tacked on two goals, while man of the match Gary Watkinson posted four conversions.

Stoker added his second try early in the second period before Heworth took their foot off the gas and allowed the visitors to add 22 points in a final flourish.

Liam Ryan, John Jewitt, Callum Prenty and Tom Barron were always in the thick of the action for Heworth.

Northallerton Stallions exited the Alliance Cup at the quarter-final stages, losing 48-14 at Stanley Rangers ‘A’.
