NORTH Yorkshire Service Area representative junior rugby league teams enjoyed a clean sweep of victories over South Yorkshire on the opening weekend of competition.

The Under-12s began the five-game programme with a 22-4 victory, the U13s produced a fine second-half display to win 38-24, the U14s made hard work of a 24-20 triumph, and the excellent U15s won 26-0.

The U12s showed a high level of skill in attack and a dogged determination in defence. Try-scorers were Ryan Gallagher, Danny Bate, Mike Husband, Billy Field and Alex Foster with Ryan Duffill adding the only conversion. Man of the match was New Earswick All Black Mike Husband.

The U13s began their second half 18-10 down, with Joe Dey and Luke Cambell getting their tries and Dean Layton a conversion.

But they stepped up a gear to score 28 points after the break, with tries from James Leaf, Jacob Scales, Jack Maud, Jamie Stuart and Callum Hannigan (2), Layton and Hannigan adding goals. York Acorn back-row Jamie Stuart was man of the match.

The U14s led 10-0 at half-time as Tyler Dawson touched down a clever Anthony Chilton kick and Matthew Winn scored a try converted by Chilton. South Yorkshire hit back after the break before a Chilton penalty and converted tries by Stuart Leeke and Matthew Gell sealed victory. Scarborough Pirate Marc McNeill was man of the match.

The U15s scored only one try in the first half, through Adam Caddie after good work by Nick Speck and Luke Watling.

But in the second, South Yorkshire tired and Norths scored further tries by Tom Wadsworth, the impressive Stephen Gardner with a superb solo try, England winger Tom Stancliffe and Danny Carlos, playing his first game for North Yorkshire. Man of the match was New Earswick's Nick Speck.

All four teams play Kirklees this Saturday, the U12s and U13s at New Earswick with the first game kicking off at 11am, and the U14s and U15s away at the Tetley's Stadium, Dewsbury.

Heworth U15s closed the curtains on their season with a 38-10 friendly win at Durham.

On the try-sheet were Jack Tudor (2), Johnny Cambridge (2), man-of-the-match Adam Farrow, Gary Sissons and Anthony Acomb with goals from Ben Simpson and Liam Ryan.

York Acorn U10s lost 28-22 at Wetherby Bulldogs. Acorn led 10-6 at the break, tries coming from Zak Agnew and Ben Church. There were good individual performances from Ali Fawcett and Ricky Watson, who also scored a try. Player of the match awards went to Charlie Settle and Ali Meek, whose speed and elusive running got the pick of Acorn's tries.
