Heworth ARLC A' team shocked promotion-chasing Sherburn Bears with a tremendous 30-22 victory at Elmpark Way in Yorkshire League division two.

The Villagers, in relegation danger, opened strongly with forwards Rich Rogers, Tom Coomber and Craig Griffiths working hard, and they opened the scoring when inspirational skipper Liam Cochrane gave a great pass to Carl Potter, who crashed over and added the conversion.

Sherburn levelled but the hosts regained the initiative before the break when stand-off Cochrane set up Ben Eastwood to power over, Potter goaling.

In a ding-dong second period, Sherburn levelled again before Heworth substitute Sam Clarke raced through for a fine try again goaled by Potter.

Sherburn retaliated well and scored two tries and a goal to lead 22-18.

But Heworth stepped up a gear and tightened their defence with Phil Musgrave and youngster Tom Hirst doing well, and a good bout of play saw Clarke edge his team in front with another converted try.

The match was settled by teenage scrum-half Nathan Potter, who crowned a fine game when dummying over in the corner for a try which was well goaled by Potter.

Paul Watson had another sound game at full-back and was well supported by juniors Liam Ryan and Ant Acomb in a fine team effort.

York Acorn A' also enjoyed a fine victory. They beat previously unbeaten Middleton 22-10 to stay top of division three, albeit having played more games than their closest rivals.

Selby Warriors gave an improved display against Sharlston Rovers A' but their wait for a second victory in Pennine League division three goes on as they lost 14-10.

The Warriors must now win their last four games to avoid finishing bottom.

New Earswick All Blacks did not have a game in the premier division, and in the end nor did their A' team in division seven as they were awarded a 30-0 walkover against Balderstone.
