HEWORTH ARLC will need to find massive improvements if they are to continue their good record against Hull Isberg on Saturday.

The Villagers crashed 52-14 at Milford Marlins last week, by far their worst result of the National Conference division two season, and now face a side lying third in the table.

They were in the game at half-time against the Marlins but disintegrated after the break, and spokesman Ken Sykes says they now have to prove their mettle to turn things around.

He explained: "We'd started the season quite well despite the fact we've won only one game (out of four). All the other games had been close and we've been unlucky in some respects, but much of that effort was undone last Saturday.

"We could have been in a really good position as we had chances when it was 10-10 but they intercepted and came away with a converted try before half-time. It had been a very even game up to then but they scored again early in the second half and we just capitulated.

"We've got to pick ourselves up and in some respects prove ourselves again."

The Villagers, who are likely to have a similar side out, did the double over Isberg last season, but the Hull outfit have begun well this term with four wins from six games.

Sykes added: "I think they've improved and it will be tough. But we've got to be optimistic and hopefully we will be up for it in a way that we weren't up for it in the second half last week."

Heworth are seeking a new club physio, either part or fully trained. Anyone interested can contact Ken Sykes on 07746 837040.

In division one, York Acorn should have player-coach Darren Callaghan and Danny Liddell back for the trip to East Leeds.

Both were unavailable last week when the Blue and Golds fell to a disappointing 34-22 home loss to Eccles & Salford Juniors. They will expect to bounce back against a side propping up the division.
