NEW Earswick All Blacks ARLC player-coach Chris Judge might hang up his boots following his latest big injury setback.

The former York Wasps loose-forward missed much of last season with a broken ankle and is now out for at least three months of this campaign after suffering a broken jaw in a controversial moment in a cup match at the end of last month.

He turns 35 next month and admitted he was considering calling it a day as a player, though he would continue as a coach.

"That could be it for me," he said, having had surgery to insert a plate to knit the bone together again.

"It might be time to stand aside and let the younger guys come through. I feel I could still do a job. I'm okay with it (the injury) but it's upset my family a bit."

The blow came in the shock Yorkshire Cup loss to Cutsyke. It is thought to have been caused by a late, high tackle off the ball.

"That's the worst thing about it for me," said Judge. "I just passed the ball and about two strides later I got caught or elbowed on the side of my jaw. There weren't any witnesses to it because everyone was following the ball, and I didn't see who did it. I played on for a bit but I knew straight away it had broken my jaw."

He added: "It's a shame because I was enjoying it this year. We've got lots of players coming through and I was enjoying being part of it, but I can still be part of it with the coaching."

New Earswick, fellow Pennine League sides Selby Warriors and New Earswick A', and Yorkshire League teams Heworth A' and York Acorn A' have no games this weekend as their leagues take a break due to Saturday night's Super League Grand Final.
