YORK City Knights Ladies have been boosted ahead of their second season in the Women’s Super League by the recruitment of Beth Lockwood from Leeds Rhinos.

Second-row Lockwood, 19, was part of the Leeds squad that won the Women’s Challenge Cup and the League Leaders Shield in 2018, but has recently moved to the Minster city to start studying sport and exercise therapy at York St John University.

Lockwood said: “I’m happy to have signed for York for 2019. I’m hoping to further adapt my skills and knowledge of the game while studying and learning here.

"The girls have made me feel like a part of the team from the very first training session and I’m excited about what we can achieve this year, especially while the ladies' game continues to grow so much."

The Knights Ladies are looking to recruit more players for 2019, the fixtures for which have just been released to coincide with International Women's Day, with the Minster city team kicking off at home to Castleford Tigresses on Sunday, April 7.

Their first five games are all at home at York St John University's Haxby Road sports complex, including one against champions Wigan, with the next five all being away.

There are 14 league fixtures in all, with the Knights finishing their regular campaign away to Bradford Bulls on September 29.
