A TRIO of Heworth ARLC juniors have signed scholarship contracts that link them to Super League clubs.

Charlie Severs and Callum Rutland have put pen to paper with City of Hull Academy - the merger of Hull Kingston Rovers' and Hull FC's youth set-ups - while U16 Jack Sadler is bound for Castleford Tigers.

Rutland and Sadler - the latter of whom was named York & District Junior Player of the Year - are both under-16s while Severs is an U15 player.

This has added to the positive feeling around the club, whose open-age team will play their first National Conference League fixture for four years on Saturday, February 23, after re-joining the league in November.

Heworth chairman Lee Clarke said: "We’re really chuffed to see three of our most talented young players making another significant step in their rugby careers.

"It’s a massive achievement for Jack, Callum and Charlie and shows that hard work pays off. The club is 100 per cent behind the lads and look forward to more of our young players following in their footsteps."

The club's new U18s academy welcomes back Darren Wheatley and Jason Bailey as coaches, and the club are in the process of adding four more changing rooms.
