SELBY Warriors finally put a top performance together in Pennine League division four and duly saw off mid-table Wortley 26-6.
It has been a frustrating season in the main for Selby as they have flattered to deceive in most games, leaving them third-bottom, but here they kept up some intense rugby for the full 80 minutes to climb one place further away from the drop zone.
Chris O'Neill opened the scoring after good work from Tom Kilgar, Jack Greensmith adding his first conversion.
From the restart, Selby forwards Mark Hansen and Fati Okateti worked the ball upfield and a good pass from Greensmith put the returning Jason Robey over.
Next up it was second-row Nathan Olbison with the third try.
Some drama followed as back-rower Liam Harrison, who is training to be a nurse, came to the aid of a Wortley player, giving first aid after a nasty head knock.
Harry Bennison completed the first-half scoring with a good try and the Warriors looked home and dry with a 22-0 lead.
Wortley dug in during the second half and scored a good try to give them some hope, but Selby had the last word through centre Ben Morris.
Selby travel to Wortley this Saturday and the visitors' second-half performance suggests it will be a difficult game in Leeds.
