"LET'S do it for Ady." That was the message from New Earswick All Blacks ARLC player-boss Jack Stearman as his side, reeling from the death of popular team-mate Ady Robinson, resume their Pennine League championship one campaign at second-placed Dewsbury Moor on Saturday.

All Blacks' last match, at Bentley Good Companions on December 13, was postponed after the 36-year-old Robinson, who had played for the club since the age of seven, passed away after contracting meningitis. Already dealing with the untimely death while on holiday of founder member and former chairman Dennis Harrison - this season's team kit adorns his name in his memory - they will now return to action with more reason to achieve their season's goals.

Said Stearman: "We got a new kit in memory of Dennis earlier in the season and now losing someone as close as Ady as well - it's tough for everyone to comprehend it.

"Most of us have had close contact and good friendship with Ady, and it gives us another reason to push forward and have a good season in his honour."

All Blacks also lost much-loved chairman Phil 'OJ' Johnson in 2012 after he died on a plan to Turkey.

Stearman said: "It's hard to take, losing so many people who were so popular and so close to the club. But it also brings us all closer together."

All Blacks have not played a match since beating Bentley at home on December 6 but they still sit third in the standings.

Asked if promotion or even the title was now the target, Stearman said it was more about doing themselves and the club justice.

"Our target has always been top four and to do better than last year, and that is what we want to achieve, even more so now," he said.

"If we go an extra mile and pick up silverware, then brilliant, that's a bonus. That will be what the team and the club will have deserved."

Training has been infrequent over the festive break but Stearman hopes to arrange a session for tomorrow night ahead of the trip to Dewsbury Moor.

"We've had people going away and Christmas is a time for families to be together," added the player-boss.

"It's a case of playing our own game as best we can and if we can pick up points, especially away from home and particularly this weekend against a side like Dewsbury Moor, then it's always a good result.

"They're a good side and they will expect to win. If we can get something out the game, then brilliant."

Sherburn Bears resume their promotion bid in division four with a home match against struggling West Bowling 'A'.

Selby Warriors could also do their neighbours a favour if they inflict only a second defeat of the season on high-riding Eastmoor Dragons.
