PROP forward Tom Speck was sent off as Heworth crashed 56-6 at home to Woolston Rovers in National Conference League division three.

The Villagers put in a spirited first-half performance, conceding only three tries and holding their visitors for long periods.

However, the second-half was always going to be an uphill battle after Speck was red-carded in the 39th minute for an alleged head butt after the intervention of a young touch judge.

Rovers scored tries through Eddie Vaughan, Troy Brophy and Daniel O’Brien, with a length-of-the-field interception, with O’Brien converting all three.

Rich Rogers went closest for Heworth, but appeared to lose the ball over the line.

After the break, the lead was increased to 40-0 with scores for Christian Taylor, Billy Maunder (2) and Daniel Fearnley.

Tom Barron scored and converted Heworth’s only try on the hour before Rovers added tries from Vaughan, Ben Moores and Maunder. O’Brien kicked five second-half conversions.

Christian Pollock, Barron, George Wilkinson and Adam Withington were Heworth’s top performers.
