York Groves joint-coach Simon Moat is hoping opposition boasts will inspire his team to a cup victory on Saturday.

The Terriers entertain Keighley Albion A' in the first round of the Pennine League Supplementary Cup, and it would seem the visitors are confident of maintaining their league form - they are top of division six with a 100 per cent record - in the knockout competition.

But Moat reckoned his side, who are enjoying a fine run of form in division five, may have a surprise or two in store in what promises to be a fiercely fought tie.

"We expect a tough encounter on Saturday," he said. "From the comments they've been posting on the Pennine League website, they already think they're in the next round.

"My lads have seen the comments and we seem pretty determined to do our talking on the pitch.

"They had us watched when we played in Keighley the other week, but we've one or two surprises in store for them this Saturday."

The York outfit will have to contend with the loss of prop Alex Mallan (unavailable), but welcome back to the squad youngster Andy Rayner and consistent full-back Paul Marshall.

The match, at Archbishop Holgate School, should see the biggest crowd of the season with many former players and committeemen stating their intension to attend. Kick off is 2pm.

New Earswick All Blacks are also in cup action again, and will aim to bounce back from last week's disappointing exit from the Yorkshire Cup.

All Blacks, who lost a healthy lead when falling to Stanley Rangers in a quarter-final thriller, kick off their Pennine League President's Cup bid with a round one trip to Greetland All Rounders, who are doing well in division one, the tier below the York side.

Division three sides Selby Warriors and York Acorn A' have tough Andrew Bennett Memorial Trophy round one fixtures away to division two sides Dearne Valley Bulldogs and Boothtown Terriers respectively.
