HEWORTH ARLC picked up their third win in six National Conference League division three games as they came from behind to beat Wigan St Cuthberts 34-28.

The Villagers trailed until the 57th minute of Saturday’s Elmpark Way clash, which saw a player from each side sent-off and another one sin-binned for fighting.

Heworth’s Adam Caddie and Wigan’s Dean Jones saw red for fighting, while punches thrown by the hosts’ Gary Watkinson and St Cuthberts’ Danny Moffatt earned them yellows.

The visitors went 14-0 up after 26 minutes thanks to tries by Kurtis Shaw and Earl Hurst, plus two conversions and a penalty by Ben Cottrill.

Jack Hodgson then got Heworth on the board with a try converted by Tom Barron, but Wigan led 20-6 at half-time after a converted score for Mike Scrivens.

Man of the match Chris Varley dragged Heworth back into it with two tries in the opening five minutes of the second period, with Barron adding a conversion.

David Baggerley crossed for the visitors, but Heworth levelled when Jonny Payne and Rich Rogers both touched down in the space of three minutes.

Heworth led after Payne’s second try on 66 minutes and Payne then converted Liam Braithwaite’s 70th-minute try.

Matty Charnock went over for Wigan in the 77th-minute.

The search for a premier division victory goes on for York Acorn after they lost 48-12 at Hull Dockers.

The first half was extremely competitive, with the visitors more than holding their own, but the second half was one-way traffic against the basement Blue and Golds.

Acorn started well and Matthew Woods crashed over from close range for the opening try on seven minutes, with Antony Chilton kicking a good conversion.

The visitors were enjoying plenty of possession and, with some excellent long distance kicking, were keeping Dockers in their own half.

The tide turned on 19 minutes when a short pass saw Aaron Bradley go over and winger Craig Skelton goaled.

On 27 minutes, a Danny Ullyatt cross-field kick was caught on the full by Skelton for a good try.

Acorn got off on the wrong foot at the start of the second period when Skelton scored from close range and converted.

With Acorn dropping off tackles at an alarming rate, Dockers added tries from Callum Birch, Steve Milne, James Beaumont, Ullyatt, Andy Taylor and Paul Fletcher, with Skelton adding a further four conversions.

Ash Robson bagged a consolation, with man of the match Chilton converting.
