The centre partnership of Shaun Strickland and Sean Holmes was a redeeming feature of a disappointing game for Heworth ARLC A' team as they suffered a 54-6 Yorkshire League division three defeat at Upton A'.

Despite an enterprising opening spell, it was soon apparent the hosts' physical presence and maturity would prove decisive, and they built a 26-0 interval lead which knocked the young Villagers team.

The second period followed in the same pattern and as much as Heworth tried they could not stem the home attack, despite the efforts of debutant Jake Humble along with Sam Johnson and Rob Ainsworth.

Heworth's spirit never flagged, though, and they were rewarded with a late consolation try by Paul Watson goaled by skipper Gary Watkinson.
